Steady week, no single dominant story, but a few threads worth flagging.
Appeals: more data, still mixed
Following up on Friday’s mailbag piece: the broader pattern in seller reports this week continues to be mixed outcomes, with well-documented original-design cases faring notably better than bare assertions. We’re not seeing evidence yet of Etsy publishing clearer guidance on the underlying standard, which remains the biggest source of ongoing frustration.
Back-to-school volume holding strong
Sellers across the category continue to report a busy week, with several noting that customization request volume specifically is higher than they anticipated when planning production capacity in July. If you haven’t checked your own capacity against actual incoming volume recently, worth a look given how quickly this can shift.
A quieter tariff development
A few sellers mentioned this week that some domestic material suppliers are seeing increased demand, presumably from sellers shifting away from overseas sourcing in response to import cost increases. Nothing dramatic yet, but worth watching if you’re considering a similar shift, since increased demand on domestic suppliers could eventually affect their pricing and lead times too.
Small note: Etsy app update
A minor Etsy Seller app update rolled out this week with what appears to be small performance improvements rather than new features. Nothing sellers need to act on, but worth knowing if you noticed the app behaving slightly differently.
What we’re watching
Whether back-to-school volume starts to taper as we move into the back half of August, and whether any clearer Creativity Standards guidance eventually surfaces.
Back next Sunday.
