The 4th of July weekend played out about how we expected

Tuesday’s piece laid out the case for treating the patriotic window as a short, proportional add-on rather than a second full priority next to summer wedding season, and that’s roughly how the weekend went. A few sellers in the forums described a real but brief spike in patriotic-category orders in the days before the 4th, tapering off fast once the holiday passed, consistent with the pattern we’ve tracked since this site’s very first week of coverage last July. The USPS closure on the holiday itself didn’t seem to catch many sellers off guard this time; most had already built it into their ship-by promises. Wedding season kept running underneath all of it at full summer volume, exactly the priority ordering Wednesday’s one-year-later playbook recommended.

Etsy’s appeals expansion, and what the mailbag added to it

Thursday’s biggest story: Etsy announced it’s expanding listing-level appeals beyond Creativity Standards, with a stated goal of broader coverage across policy violation types (IP complaints, AI disclosure flags, dropshipping concerns) by the end of the year. We’ve tracked the appeals process closely since the Creativity Standards overhaul left sellers with no formal recourse for the first several weeks last summer, so this is a real shift, not a minor tweak.

Friday’s mailbag question asked the obvious follow-up: does the old advice for diagnosing a mysterious removal still apply, or is this finally simpler? Our answer was that the basics haven’t changed. Check Shop Manager’s Policy Violations section for the specific reason cited, document everything (dated files, evidence of original work, your communication history), and expect the newly expanded process to take months to reach the same reliability the Creativity Standards appeals path eventually did. Patience and documentation are still doing most of the work here, just across a wider set of violation types now.

Tool notes: eRank’s free tier still holds up

Our fourth eRank check-in in a year closed out with the same verdict the first three landed on: the free tier’s Health Check and five daily keyword lookups cover what a small, stable shop actually needs, and the paid tiers earn their cost mainly during real seasonal peaks, holiday prep and wedding season most of all, not as a flat year-round subscription. If you’ve been paying for eRank every month regardless of season, this week’s piece has the pricing breakdown and a simple way to test the free tier against what you’re currently paying for.

What we’re watching

Whether Etsy’s appeals expansion actually reaches “broad coverage” by year’s end as stated, and whether it matures at the same pace the Creativity Standards process did. And, more immediately, whether wedding season’s summer peak holds through the rest of July the way the last several weeks have suggested it will.

That’s the first week of July. See you next Sunday.
