Etsy pushed a redesign of its seller community forums sometime between July 20 and July 22. We didn’t find a public announcement email or blog post explaining it; Etsy does maintain an ongoing Community Hub release-notes thread on its own forums, but we weren’t able to confirm it documents this specific change, so what follows is reconstructed from what sellers are reporting rather than an Etsy statement. Sellers noticed when their bookmarked forum links started resolving to a different layout, and by July 23 a thread in the “Getting Started” board flagging the change had run to several hundred replies, most of them confused rather than angry.

We’ve covered forum changes before (our July 12 Week in Review touched on the mobile app’s messaging redesign), but this one is bigger in scope and messier in rollout.
What actually moved
The old forum structure grouped discussion boards loosely by craft category and region, things like “Jewelry Makers,” “UK Sellers,” “Vintage Sellers.” That structure is gone. In its place, Etsy has organized boards by function: Shipping & Fulfillment, Listings & SEO, Pricing & Fees, Shop Policies, and a catch-all Off Topic board. Several longtime posters pointed out this mirrors the way eBay and Amazon seller forums are organized, and a few speculated Etsy pulled in help from a team that also works on those cross-platform community tools, though nothing from Etsy confirms that.
The regional boards, where sellers in the same country or time zone coordinated on shipping carriers, VAT questions, and local meetups, were folded into the general topic boards or archived outright. One moderator, replying to a seller’s question about it, said old threads are being kept read-only rather than deleted. Several sellers said that hasn’t matched what they’re seeing, and reported direct links to specific archived threads returning a 404 instead of redirecting anywhere.
Search also changed. The old forum search matched on exact phrases and returned results in chronological order. The new search appears to rank by engagement (replies and reactions) first, which surfaces older popular threads ahead of recent ones. For sellers trying to find a fresh answer to a fast-moving issue, like a policy change from the same week, that’s made search less useful, not more.
Sorting within a board also flipped. Threads now default to “Most Helpful” instead of “Most Recent.” That’s a like/upvote-driven sort, and it means a new thread can sit buried under a two-year-old post with more accumulated reactions unless a seller manually switches the sort order, which isn’t obvious on mobile.
What sellers are saying
The reaction split roughly two ways. One group, mostly newer sellers, said the topic-based structure is easier to navigate than hunting through a dozen craft-specific boards for a shipping question. A few posting in the redesigned Shipping & Fulfillment board said they’d found answers to customs questions faster than they ever had on the old forum layout.
The other group, mostly sellers who’d been active in the old regional boards for years, are frustrated. Several said they lost access to ongoing conversations with sellers in their own country, particularly EU sellers who used those boards to work through VAT and customs questions specific to their market. One thread starter in the archived “Australia & NZ Sellers” board asked moderators directly whether a replacement space was coming; as of July 24, no Etsy staff response had appeared in that thread.
There’s also a smaller, more technical complaint: several sellers said their forum post history and badges (the small icons showing tenure or top-poster status) didn’t carry over cleanly, showing as blank or reset for accounts that had been active for years. Etsy hasn’t addressed this publicly yet.
What we don’t know yet
Etsy hasn’t published a changelog entry, a blog post, or an in-forum sticky explaining the redesign’s reasoning, which is unusual even by the platform’s normal habit of light-touch forum communication. It’s not clear whether this is a finished rollout or a first pass that Etsy plans to keep adjusting based on the feedback already piling up in that Getting Started thread. We’ll follow up if Etsy issues a statement or if the archived board links get fixed.
If you relied on a regional or craft-specific board for something specific, check now whether that content is still reachable before assuming it’s gone for good. “Read-only, not deleted” is the only official word on it so far, and that’s coming from a moderator’s comment, not a company statement.
