A small messaging interface update this cycle, a reasonable one to note as message volume settles back down from the holiday peak.

What changed

Etsy made a minor adjustment to how read receipts and response-time tracking display within the seller inbox, building on the threading and grouping changes we’ve tracked at a few points throughout the past year. This appears to be a refinement of display accuracy rather than a change to the underlying response-time calculation itself.

Why now is actually a good moment to check this

With message volume down from December’s peak, this is a lower-pressure time to familiarize yourself with any interface change than it would have been during the holiday rush. Take a few minutes this week to confirm you understand how response times are currently displayed and calculated under the updated interface.

A good habit for the new year

Given how many small messaging and interface changes we’ve tracked over the course of the past year, it’s worth building a standing new-year habit: periodically cross-check your own sense of your response performance against what Shop Manager’s Star Seller dashboard actually reports, rather than assuming the two always align perfectly.

What to do this week

A quick review of your current messaging interface and Star Seller stats, now that things have calmed down from the holiday rush, sets a clean baseline heading into the year, before the next seasonal push (Valentine’s Day, which we’ll start covering shortly) brings its own volume increase.

We’ll keep tracking these incremental changes as they continue through the new year.
